But Donovan finds her very attractive This was such a sweet, funny, and heartwarming read. I really liked the main couple. Anna was kind and considerate, she got Donovan to come out of his shell and to start interacting with kids and people more.
I also liked Donovan. I felt bad for him, losing his son. I really enjoyed this book.

And the h returns his feelings, but they take pains to maintain the proper boss-employee distance. He's hurting and guilt-ridden b A sweet and gentle romance between two emotionally hurting people, who don't necessarily take out their pain on others. He's hurting and guilt-ridden because of his son's death while she's grappling with infertility and adoption hopes. This book is very hard to review because it's a lovely, sweet story with a decent romance and a discussion about dealing with grief within it, and yet in many ways I don't think it's one that will stick in my memory.
The two main characters of Anna and Donovan were well developed and I really liked that their relationship was built steadily up throughout the novel rather than them falling in love straight away. The resolution to the story was also nice and well-written. It makes for a nice and enjoyable story, but nothing beyond that, which is a shame because I wouldn't mind reading more of Mackenzie's work in the future.
Three stars for a good, easy read.

And every time I tell myself, that there is simply no way the author could make this book any better than the last , yet she has amazed me time and time again, this time was a complete surprise, because I walked away from this read with so much more than I have ever done before.
The read tells of housekeeper Jo Anderson, she gets the shock of her life when she meets her new boss. Six months ago millionaire Mac MacCallum was a charismatic celebrity chef, now he's scarred and reclusive.
The Millionaire And The Maid : Michelle Douglas :
So the very last thing he needs is determined Jo to make him confront his demons, especially when she very clearly has her own. But when Mac can clearly see Jo feeling like the plainest woman in Australia he recons he might be exactly what she needs to find her special flair.
By now I am sure you have already pretty much figured out that Mac is the one who let's Jo feel beautiful and makes her feel just as special as any girl could with the right words, the right looks and the right actions. And that Jo is the one who pulls Mac from his sudden recluse, you are absolutely correct, and I agree is sounds like a story line that has been done before and it most likely has, but the difference is that this time it was written by Michelle Douglas. And as I have mentioned this author fills a read with deep heartfelt emotion, memorable characters and a romance story guaranteed to make your heart soar, so you take all of that and add in the author's pure magical flair for twisting and turning characters into something you thought they might become but never really knew the joy it could bring when the time for change actually comes, and you have a ' rescue me and I 'll rescue you" romance that will stay in your heart for a long time coming.

The characters were both strong willed and determined to make themselves known, from page one there is no avoiding them, the author let them reach out from the pages and drag me in, demanding I listen to them, feel their emotions and want to get involved in their lives, and listen I did and with each emotion I felt I became more hopelessly trapped in a world I never wanted to leave, I cried my eyes out when the read ended, tears of joy for the characters finally reaching their hard fought for happy ending, but also tears of sadness that their story has come to an end.
This gorgeous romance is set against the perfect backdrop, the descriptions used by the author made it felt as if I was right there, I could see the house, I felt the wind rustling through the trees, smelled the fresh air and I could touch the sunshine. I am taking away a message of guilt is guaranteed to send even the strongest of people into a slump , hiding out from the world. And guaranteed not every woman feels beautiful until she is able to see what others see.
So what is one meant to do when guilt sends you running or your beauty is simply something others see and you spend your entire life trying to see? The answer is a simple one, love! Love will let you get back on the right path after guilt has sent you astray and love will let you see what has been there all along, all you need to in both instances is risk, believe and you will achieve happiness. I recommend this read for all fans of romances that are perfect in every single way. Russ was not just her boss but a very good friend, and his almost death made her realize that, after 8 years in the Australian Outback, working as a geologist wasn't what she wanted to do anymore.
Russ is worried about his younger brother, Mac, who had been burned horribly on a televised cooking show. When he keeps loosing his housekeepers, Russ asks Jo to take the job while she decides on what her new career should be. Jo is horrified to find him subsisting on cold cereal, coffee and bourbon.
The windows are covered, windows shut tight, and it seems Mac hasn't experienced fresh air in weeks. From the start their wills clash, and Jo plays the guilt card and threatens Mac that she'll tell Russ just how washed out he is. Her blunt honesty has him taking a look at himself and he's forced to shape up. When Mac asks her why she took on the job, Jo tells him straight that Russ asked and she needs to learn how to cook; particularly, how to make a macaroon tower.
Mac quickly dashes that hope, because he's not lifting one finger in the kitchen until he certain his apprentice is taken care of financially. Douglas always gives a lovely emotional read. In this romance, we have the scarred, tortured hero, and a feisty yet vulnerable heroine who has always been made to feel awkward and unappealing.
Together they battle wits and an overwhelming attraction. Jo's hard truths force Mac to see there is a better path to helping his apprentice. Mac's knack of making Jo's knees wobble and his constant reassurance of her loveliness, have Jo feeling beautiful and desirable. These two are soul mates from the start and Ms. Douglas pens them a very satisfying HEA. Mar 28, Helen rated it it was amazing.
WOW I loved this story MS Douglas really knows how to write a story that will pull at your heart strings bring you close to tears and have you smiling perfect in a romance story: Mac is a top chef with his own TV show and comes across hard but when there is a terrible accident on the set and he and an apprentice are injured life changes dramatically for Mac and he goes away to write and pretty much hide that is until his brother sends his friend Jo to be his housekeeper for a few weeks. Jo is WOW I loved this story MS Douglas really knows how to write a story that will pull at your heart strings bring you close to tears and have you smiling perfect in a romance story: Jo is strong and straight up honest she is a tall woman and has some issues to overcome herself about her size but Mac and Jo hit it off straight away they bring the best out in each other and are so good for each other their bantering is great and their journey to a HEA is one that will have you turning the pages and cheering them on and also enjoying the culinary delights and with the help of Bandit the dog this is one story you don't want to miss it is sensual heart-warming and thoroughly wonderful.
Jun 29, Karen rated it liked it Shelves: Nov 05, Lyn rated it it was amazing Shelves: The author did such a good job of describing the house and grounds where Mac and Jo are that I want to take a holiday there too. Love that in the end Mac uses similar methods with Ethan to those that Jo used to make sure Mac didn't work himself into the ground.
To me, Jo is a positive woman - who was crafty in the way that she managed to get Mac to do the things that were needed for his wellbeing. Some personal favourite bits: Jo referring to her car as the Beast and Mac's care as the Beauty.
Also The author did such a good job of describing the house and grounds where Mac and Jo are that I want to take a holiday there too. Also, love when Mac realises that Bandit is in fact Bandita expecting pups and lets Jo in on this. Aug 03, Malvina rated it really liked it. This was a lovely romance, light and luscious, with a Beauty and the Beast theme.
It made me want to eat macarons, and maybe rush out and buy a puppy or two. Oct 17, Joy rated it liked it Shelves: Unlike some Harlequin books, this one was easy to read. However, the content could've been better. This book is a new modern day twist on Beauty and the Beast. We have a reclusive former chief scarred from a cooking accident and a lonely geologist who wants to learn how to cook for payment on being his housemaid. This story started off nice but I didn't like the sexual advances that the chef made toward the girl.
