There are no resume books out there specifically for the social work profession. When I saw this book on Amazon. What a disappointment and waste of money this book turned out to be. What a misleading title. The author should be ashamed of herself for giving the book such a title. I'm so pissed off for buying this book.
See a Problem?
I'm pissed at myself for not fully checking it out I guess I let my exciting get the best of me when I saw the title, thinking it's for people who are in the profession and looking for a new job within the profession. The book is a waste of money. Honestly, I am not impressed with this book.
I got it in hopes of bettering my resume BUT all it is is a collection of various resumes. You can find the same information online for free. I rarely leave a review that is lower than 3 stars, but I don't feel like this book was helpful at all to me in particular. Very informative and useful! Like one of the other reviewers, I am quite disappointed in this book, and I really wish that I hadn't waited so long that now I cannot return it.
Perhaps the problem was my expectation. I assumed that in addition to actual resumes that there would be guidance on how to write a "counselor" resume. This book is wonderful I am changing careers and it has assisted me in creating a wonderful resume! Bought for my daughter who's in a social work program. Great range of examples and cover letters, but the conceptual piece on how to write your own was too brief. One person found this helpful.

Recommended to Jessica by: But I guess it's a tough medium. Right in the kisser! Does it really have to be this way? WHY does it have to be this way? There must be an alternative to this grotesquely degrading ritual.
Well, it' This book sucks. Well, it's taken all day and a sick sick sick sick amount of online procrasturbation, but I've actually sent out three of these motherfuckers today. I do apologize for all the obscenity in this book report. But you know, this process can make the most well-mannered and cheerful lady get very cranky Whereas here, honestly, I really do not want a fulltime job. What I want is to do social work twenty hours a week, and spend the rest of my time napping, reading French novels while eating bonbons, running in the park, and painstakingly crafting the Crap American Novel.
Is this too much to ask? It seems reasonable to me. But here I am, doing this, suffering horribly in the hopes that my efforts will someday bear the rotten fruits of wage slavery An excerpt from a sample letter in this wonderful manual ostensibly under review: Dear Sir or Madam: With the enclosed resume, I would like to make you aware of my interest in exploring employment opportunities with your organization upon my recent permanent relocation to New Jersey. I have just spent nearly two years in Oregon caring for my aging father, who had suffered a stroke.
He has recovered, and I am returning permanently to New Jersey, which is my home.

Let's take a vote here. How many of us, as the hiring manager, would call this person for an interview, based on that lovely, well-crafted first sentence? And how many would -- well, let's be gentle -- punch her in the face? And who wants to give me a grant and some decent health insurance, so that I might pursue my own artistic interests and leisurely lifestyle?
And who will subsidize my voyage to a more comfortable planet, where I'd experience better "goodness-of-fit" with my environment than I do here on Earth?
