In the seedy starport of Ackabar, a young girl searches the crime-ridden gutters to avenge her father's murder; not far away, a double-dealing legionniare-turned-smuggler hunts an epic payday; and somewhere along the outer galaxy, a mysterious bounter hunter lies in wait. They bomb our worlds for target practice. A star cluster in the constellation of Orion rotates once every 1, years. Those who rule there have an ancient tradition: When each cycle ends, they train their fleets by spilling the blood of lesser beings. The enemy fleets are coming again. In response, the Rebel Worlds gather their starships to face the terrifying threat, and this time humanity is asked to stand with them.
The last time they considered Earth, Vikings in longboats were raiding English coastlines. Today, we're less primitive. Today, we're a target.
One ship is tasked to free them. One Captain to save them all. When an alien armada destroys the United Earth Space Force and takes control of the human homeworld, newly reinstated Captain Annette Bond must take her experimental hyperspace cruiser Tornado into exile as Terra's only interstellar privateer.
She has inferior technology, crude maps, and no concept of her enemy, but the seedy underbelly of galactic society welcomes her so long as she has prizes to sell and money to spend.
They came from the brightest star in the southern constellation of Carina. First they studied us. Now they're among us, threatening human existence as they search for the Starcore, the greatest device of the lost Polarions. Logan is captured in the Nevada desert but escapes in Greenland.

There he finds an extraterrestrial stealth ship, giving him the means to take the battle to the enemy. The Confederation has fought three wars against the forces of the totalitarian Union.
Three generations of its warriors have gone off to war, held the line against the larger, more powerful enemy. Now the fourth conflict is imminent, and the Confederation's navy is on alert, positioned behind the frontier, waiting for the attack it knows is coming. It came from deep space. It sent the signal. Now our computers are killing us, helping the enemy drive us into extinction. But some of us refuse to die. Jon Hawkins revives from cryogenic sleep in a drifting SLN battleship.
The crew is dead and the main computer has been destroyed. Jon is a soldier, the start of the resistance, the one man with the will to beat the alien death machines that have terminated races. This is our hour as we face the ultimate evil, the galactic destroyer of life. A young human male orphaned by the death of his adopted father struggles to survive in a universe that offers little more than despair.
He's forced to scrub booster tubes on commercial starships to make enough coins to feed his alcohol addiction in his dirty day-to-day existence. The future looks dark and is getting darker. To make matters worse, he discovers that two very powerful forces are attempting to capture him and he has no clue why. Captain Eric Weston and his crew encounter horrors, wonders, monsters, and people; all of which will test their resolve, challenge their abilities, and put in sharp relief what is necessary to be a hero. A first-rate military-science-fiction epic that combines old-school space opera and modern storytelling, Into the Black: Odyssey One is a riveting, exhilarating adventure with vivid details, rich mythology, and relentless pacing.
The expedition arrives on Terra Nova, expecting to join the first wave of colonists, instead they find abandoned cities and are soon faced with a new, terrifying enemy humanity has never encountered before. This publisher pack includes Terra Nova and Bloodlines. Escaping wrongful imprisonment wasn't something Connor had in mind, but being put into stasis aboard Earth's first interstellar colony ship was something he couldn't have prepared for.

For , colonists, the new colony brings the promise of a fresh start Connor might be the wrong man for the colony, but he's the right man to see that it survives what's coming. Heir to one of the leading "Four Horsemen" mercenary companies, Jim Cartwright is having a bad year. Having failed his high school VOWS tests, he's just learned his mother bankrupted the family company before disappearing, robbing him of his Cavalier birthright. One thousand years after Earth was destroyed in an unprovoked attack, humanity has emerged victorious from a series of terrible wars to assure its place in the galaxy. My name is Alice Long, and I've always known I was different. When I was little I used to climb up to the highest branches of the housetree at night, and watch the starships docking at the orbital stations high above. Forty meters off the ground, watching ships 30, kilometers overhead, with senses that could pick out radar pings and comm chatter as easily as the ships themselves.
It all seemed perfectly natural at the time. The Tyrell are a race that love to fight. The more difficult the fight, the better they like it. Every race they find is given the same level of technology and a specific amount of time to exploit it before the Tyrell come back looking for a fight. Humanity is warned by another alien species that the Tyrell are coming, and the race is on to build an Alliance of races strong enough to stand up against an empire whose expansion has been relentless.
A cease-fire that has lasted seven years. Worlds half-destroyed that have been rebuilt anew. Friends and crewmates scattered light-years apart. This series is Space Opera at its finest. All seven books in the series have been number one best-sellers at Amazon's Science Fiction Series.

A Rose Grows In Weeds is Volume 3 of the Annihilation series, and seems to be written as the end of a trilogy, although the series has many more books now.
Main storylines are wrapped up, and in general the story has more of a finished quality to it at the end. The story continues the lives of Thomas Gardner Tag and Danielle Gardner and the continuing growth and battles of the Alliance, a large group of worlds banded together. It deals with relationships and abilities about years in the future, between Earth and many other "alien" species. Psychic powers are now quite dominant, although we no longer see the group of Earth psychics who helped determine the best outcome of futures from present actions.
By this volume, any connection with Earth is small; the governing group and seat of government have moved to a former colony world, and Earth has no more power than any other world. Sure glad there are a bunch of better writers out there. Dec 23, Elb rated it really liked it. This was a good book.
Everything was coming together at the end but some things did not make since, hence the four stars. The plants survived in space as pods. Once they landed on a new planet they grew and had genetic memory. However, the only way a plant can grow is if it can feed on its homeworld soil, which has been destroyed. Thus, the plants should have been exterminated. Jun 10, Jolie rated it liked it. I really didn't like this book. When I was reading it, I got slightly confused. The book kept leaping between characters.
You would finish one paragraph and in the next paragraph, you could be 5 years in the future. Very confusing and very frustrating to read. The character were also not very well developed And the villains, well they turned out not to be very villainous in the end. I gave this book 3 stars on Shelfari. Will I recommend it to friends or relatives? No, I woul I really didn't like this book.
