But what you see when you read through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, is that they each have their own look and feel. The Holy Spirit has given us different perspectives through which to see The Gospel message. This makes the whole picture much clearer to us. Through each author, to each audience, in each circumstance, we see different things being emphasized. Different points are made about the same things. We can really connect with the Gospel by seeing it divinely written through four different humans like us.

The next question I had to ask myself was why Matthew, Mark, and Luke are so similar! They are said to see together because they are so similar, even down to the wording in many places. There are a number of different theories ranging from almost years ago to today. The one that has the most strength is that Matthew and Luke are based on Mark. The other Gospels follow Jesus around geographically.

John is a slower pace, spending more time on less ministry activity. We see longer conversations and interviews in John. Think about the woman at the well, Nicodemus, the wedding, these are scenes that take up a lot of words. The conversation in Matthew is a religious one, meaning the ones hearing this Gospel were deeply religious people and had to be addressed accordingly. Otherwise, they would not have listened.

The Romans were interested in leadership and power. The Gospel of Mark spends a lot of time communicating the actions and power of Christ.

That is what the Romans cared about. The Greeks were culturally oriented and loved thought and beauty. To them, a good life could be achieved through the accumulation of knowledge, wisdom, and truth. It has great insights that spark the mind. John wrote to everybody. His focus is on meeting God and showing that it can only be done through Jesus. The all-powerful Creator-God who reigns over the universe is presented and Jesus is shown to be Him. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer.

I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen. If you decided to receive Jesus today, welcome to God's family. Now, as a way to grow closer to Him, the Bible tells us to follow up on our commitment.

Get baptized as commanded by Christ. Tell someone else about your new faith in Christ. Spend time with God each day. It does not have to be a long period of time.

Just develop the daily habit of praying to Him and reading His Word. Ask God to increase your faith and your understanding of the Bible. Seek fellowship with other followers of Jesus.
