While this book has some good information in it, it is not nearly comprehensive like I would like. I am not only looking to identify the plant, but to identify the qualities of it as well - such as is it poisonous? Does it have any valuable qualities, any medicianl qualities?

Utah Wildflowers: Field Guide to the Northern and Central Mountains and Valleys

Could it be used externaly or internally? Also, the pictures, while they are nice, only identify the plant when it is flowering If you catch the plant before or after the flower, you are out of luck, sort of speak. I suppose I would like to see more in depth information about the plants, and a better description of the overall plant. It is helpful that there is a small glossary in the back explaining what the plant parts are for those who aren't familiar with them. There is also a map of the Utah counties in the front, which is also helpful.

One of the drawbacks to this book, is there are plants that look very similar to some of these such as the cow parsnip which are poisonous. It does mention not to ingest them unless positive identification is made, and that can be very diffcult to someone who isn't familiar with them. But if you just want to see the flower and know the name of them, then this will be a good book for you.

I love to wander the canyons of Utah and take pictures of the wildflowers. This guide is as good or better than any of the several others I have in my collection. One person found this helpful. This is an excellent introduction to the native flowers of Utah.

As mentioned in the first review, many pictures do not show the leaves. Although the author captures the beauty of the subject, the reader may find it hard to use the book for identifying plants.
